New Converge track

You can listen to a new song from Converge below, taken from their new split release with Dropdead. ‘Runaway’ is the band’s only contribution to the split, with Dropdead’s ‘Paths of Glory’. The split will be released through Converge’s own imprint Deathwish Inc.

Unsurprisingly, ‘Runaway’ is unhinged fury, the kind that only Converge are capable of. For now, it looks like this split 7” will be the only new material from Converge for a while, with no follow up to Axe To Fall set anytime soon.

Listen to ‘Runaway’ here:

New Gojira track

Gojira have finally released a new song from their upcoming Sea Shepherd fundraiser EP, and it features guest appearances from Devin Townsend and Meshuggah’s Fredrik Thordendal. ‘Of Blood and Salt’ can be heard below.

It shouldn’t come as any surprise that ‘Of Blood and Salt’ is heavy, this is Gojira after all. The French machine has really found their own sound since 2005’s From Mars to Sirius and that trademark is all over this new song. Townsend’s vocal contribution is also a heady mix with the band along with Thordendal’s riffing.

There are no other details on the new Gojira EP and eventual album just yet but as soon as we know, you’ll know!

The Universe Divide album coming very soon

Last February saw the very unfortunate disbanding of Canvas Solaris, a truly phenomenal band, who have at least gone out in a blaze of glory. Last year’s Irradiance was a glorious record to say the least, and was placed number 12 in The Grind That Annoys’ top 20 albums of 2010. But wipe away the tears, the show, as they say, must go on.

Featuring the sublime guitar work of Chris Rushing from Canvas Solaris, as well as bassist Gaël Pirlot, The Universe Divide has finished work on their debut album and it is set for release next month. Dust Settles on the Odontophobes is being mixed by Jamie King, who has worked extensively with Between The Buried and Me.

Rushing and Pirlot formed the side project in 2007 and encountered drummer Jason Parker who completed the line-up. In 2008, the demo An Ode To Rudolf Clausius was released. Its two songs marked a head turning sound that proved to be a riveting instrumental metal force, as the wickedly technical musicianship of its two founders collided. Both tracks, ‘Cyclical Procession’ and ‘Phi Inverted’, on the demo have been re-recorded for the album. If you’re looking for a mere taster of what to expect from Dust Settles on the Odontophobes, the two demo songs are available to download for free, from the band’s website HERE.

Tesseract acoustic sessions

While on tour in the States, UK prog metallers TesseracT took part in an acoustic recording session for Metal Injection. The three videos are online now and can be viewed HERE, along with one of the songs down below.

The band performed renditions of their own songs ‘April’ and ‘Origin’ as well as a cover of the Jeff Buckley number ‘Dream Brother’. Both ‘April’ and ‘Origin’, in their bare stripped down states, provide for some harrowing atmospheres. It’s been said on these pages before but here it goes one more time, Daniel Tompkins has one of the best voices in modern metal. We heard it in its recorded glory on One and when the band played their three date Irish tour back in February, we witnessed the fact that the man doesn’t miss a step live. However, on these acoustic tracks there’s little in the way of big, staggering vocals like that on songs like ‘Nascent’, rather it’s a deep brooding and melancholic vibe, and it’s equally as impressive.

Check out ‘April’, and the rest of the clips HERE.

Unearth streaming another track

Fresh off releasing the first salvo from their new album just over two weeks ago, Unearth are streaming another new song, ‘Ruination of the Lost’, over on Metal Sucks. While that track, ‘Eyes of Black’, was a reasonably strong song, ‘Ruination of the Lost’ is much more impressive. The trademark Unearth riffs are there but are so tenfold and the soloing here is especially killer.

The new album Darkness In The Light is released in July through Metal Blade, and right now it’s becoming an even more enticing prospect. Check out the song below:

Another post about Devin Townsend… what more could you want?

Devin Townsend is already working on material for a new solo album Epicloud, as we found out late last week. But Ghost and Deconstruction have yet to be officially released and to appease the waiting masses Dev has released a track from each album for free download and all you have to do is ‘like’ him on Facebook and tweet about it on Twitter. Click HERE to get stuck in.

The two songs are the full length version of ‘Feather’ from Ghost and ‘Juular’ from Deconstruction, which features guest vocals from Ihsahn. The two albums are released June 20th.
